IMPORTANT NOTE
Insulin users should be familiar with best practices in injection techniques and seek advice when necessary. Best practices recommend, among other things, that insulin users should manually inspect and palpate their injection sites to detect potential areas of lipohypertrophy, defined as a thickened rubbery area of fat tissue underneath the skin. If you feel bumps under your skin, these may indicate areas of lipohypertrophy that could affect the absorption of injected insulin. If you have been told or that think you may be suffering from lipohypertrophy and are planning to use new injection sites as part of a site rotation program, talk to your health care professional who may advise you to adjust your insulin dose and monitor your blood glucose levels more frequently.
